STEGGY’S DINO DASH
Calling all children! Have you ever fancied becoming a prehistoric explorer?
Belle Vale Shopping Centre is giving you the chance with their exciting Dino Dash this May half term – You’ll even get to meet a real, life sized dinosaur!
Between Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th May, families are invited to join Steggy’s Dino Dash where children are encouraged to take part in a unique hunt to win a hamper prize! To be in with a chance of winning a fantastic range of goodies from retailers at the Centre, collect an entry form located in the centre mall area by the main stairs, and find all ten fossil images hidden around the centre in shop windows. All correct entries will be entered in a prize draw to win a prize.
On the final day of the Dino Dash, shoppers of all ages are invited to come and meet Steggy the dinosaur. The animated Stegosaurus is accompanied by our resident palaeontologist who presents a lively and informative natural history show. Shoppers are encouraged to ‘get tactile’ with the dinosaur during each show and pose for a photo. Join in the interactive, educational and beautifully realistic show with the Stegosaurus at 12pm, 2pm and 3pm!

BIG LITTLE LIBRARY LAUNCH
Belle Vale Shopping Centre has partnered once again with Gateacre School to host a unique attraction; The BIG Little Library! This pop-up library was officially unveiled on World Book Day, Thursday 5th March by Cllr Erica Kemp at an event attended by local dignitaries, community members, schoolchildren and the public of Belle Vale.
The Big Little Library is a gathering place for book lovers, where the community can share their favourite literature as well as take part in enjoyable games to build reading and writing skills. The aim is to inspire children and young people to read, share and even write their own fantastic stories. The idea for the scheme was partly inspired by the Little Libraries that are springing up across the UK. Belle Vale Library, as well as many other libraries across Liverpool, recently faced the prospect of closure and so as part of this campaign, Little Libraries will be donated throughout the city. The first of these Little Libraries was presented to the Lord Mayor Cllr Erica Kemp at this event, who accepted it on behalf of City Hall. At the end of the project a Little Library will also remain at Belle Vale Shopping Centre as a permanent feature.
This is the first occasion that a full shop unit has been taken over by such a project, making it an exciting gathering place for book lovers!
BIG LITTLE LIBRARY
Gateacre School in conjunction with Belle Vale Shopping Centre is creating the BIG Little Library by Gateacre School.
Its a take a book, return a book, donate a book gathering place where the community can share their favourite literature and stories.
In its most basic form, a Little Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. We are taking it one step further by creating an actual shop full of books, which have been donated by local residents, businesses, students and the wider community over the last 9 months.
The purpose of the shop is:
- To become an inspiring gathering place where the community can share their favourite literature and stories.
- To help to engage all members of the local communities; from children, young people and adults from different backgrounds.
- To encourage people to enjoy reading and discover how it benefits their wellbeing.
- To develop a broader range of English and Literacy skills.
- To build strong, mutually supportive communities who read together.
- To provide enjoyable, welcoming and meaningful activities within the community, inspiring people to engage in other local and city-wide activities.
- To improve wellbeing, increase social engagement and widen cultural horizons.
The Shop will open on World Book Day 5th March for 3 months. Along with many literacy and creative activities taking place in the shop itself, we plan on building 10 Little Libraries as well as 10 Recycled Libraries (with help from our good friends Bulky Bob) and will donate them to our local community to create a network of Little Libraries.
The library has been set up in Unit 28a, next to Argos in the Shopping Centre.

BOOK DONATION 2015
Belle Vale Shopping Centre is working in association with Gateacre School to promote literacy amongst children in the community.
There will be various events held in the centre over the coming months, that will tie in with World Book Day in March 2015.
We are starting the project by asking the local community to donate their unwanted books to Belle Vale, that will be used by the children as part of this project.
Details of all events will be advertised in the centre and on the centre media sites.
