Halloween The At BIG Little Library
BIG Little Book Break
Thursday 5th October 2017 – 14.30pm to 16.00pm
What happens at a Shared Reading group?
Our Shared Reading groups meet every week, gathering together, often over a cup of tea and a biscuit. The Reader Leader will bring a story and poem to share with everyone aloud, either by them or willing members of the group – we never ask anyone to read unless they’d like to. Throughout the session, the group will pause to reflect on the story or poem, working out what’s going on together, sharing their thoughts about it, perhaps making personal connections to the literature.
Who are the groups for?
Everyone! We read with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Everything in our groups is read aloud. Shared Reading groups are free for group members to attend, everyone is welcome to join. Nearly all the groups listed below are open to all, a few are specifically for older people for example, when this is this case it will say that clearly in the group details.
Even if you wouldn’t call yourself a reader you will find a warm welcome from a group of people who are glad to have you there.
CALLING ALL TOY TESTERS
Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th October
Children are invited to Belle Vale Shopping Centre to tinker with the latest toys and put them to the ultimate test. The playful event will see children rate their favourite toys, giving family and friends an insight into the top children’s gifts to buy this Christmas.
On Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th October, Belle Vale Shopping Centre’s toy testing station will be open for play! The engaging and colourful zone will transform into a mini research lab as children grab a lab coat and, under the supervision of the Toy Technicians, experiment with the latest toys.
Between 11am and 3pm, there will be games, gizmos and gadgets from retailers including Argos, B&M, Home Bargains, Poundworld and more. Children will be shown around the testing station by costumed entertainers and invited to play with toys of their choosing, before placing a sticker on the super scoreboard as a vote for their favourite.
Centre Manager, Paul Wilson, commented: “The toy testing event has been perfectly timed to take place during half-term, just as parents are starting to think about Christmas gift buying. We’re excited to put the power into children’s hands and see which toys are popular this Christmas, although all our stores have a fantastic range on the shelves. We can’t wait to welcome families to this fun play area.”
