BIG LITTLE LIBRARY IS BACK!
Back by popular demand: Belle Vale Shopping Centre has once again partnered with Gateacre School to host The BIG Little Library. The pop-up library is back on Wednesday the 2nd March to inspire the community to read. The team behind the project are delighted to announce that the library will be officially opened by Channel 4 Gogglebox Star’s Leon and June at 2pm.
Once upon a time, in 2015 to be exact, Belle Vale Shopping Centre and Gateacre School embarked on a quest to get shoppers reading! The team were inspired by ‘Little Libraries’ – an international phenomenon in recent years of free drop of points for people to share books and from this, the BIG Little library was born! A unit within the centre was magically transformed into a book swapping library and dynamic hub of learning, reading and events for local school children, residents and shoppers which changed reading in the community forever…
The BIG Little Library is back with an even bigger mission as it will be open for six months! At 2pm on Wednesday 2nd March (just before World Book Day) the BIG Little Library will return with fantastic, new activities. Local celebrities and stars of Channel 4’s hit show Gogglebox, Leon and June will be opening the unit. The pair, both of whom are former teachers, are very popular with the show’s fans. Everyone is invited to get involved and show how exciting reading can be for the whole family! Belle Vale Shopping Centre is now collecting books to stock the library at the yellow book collection point on the mall. Customers are invited to bring unwanted books with them to the Centre on the launch day and during the six month opening.
Last year’s event had over 3,500 visitors, shared an amazing 10,000 books with the community and hosted an exciting mix of FREE literary games and activities. It was also the workshop for 10 ‘Little Libraries’ which were hand crafted, decorated and distributed to the local community. These little libraries have found new homes across Liverpool and Merseyside including at Liverpool City Hall. The team behind the project are excited to see what this year will bring.
