LETTERS TO FATHER CHRISTMAS
FATHER CHRISTMAS ARRIVAL
Saturday 21st November 10am – 4pm
Working in partnership with Zoë’s Place, Belle Vale Shopping Centre will host ‘The Light a Life tree’ again this year and will have a traditional light switch on with performances by a local school choir and appearances from Bella the Bee.
The Light a Life tree invites the community to sponsor a light on the tree in memory of a loved one for a donation of five pounds and the contributor’s name is printed on a commemorative banner. Lisa Mitchell from Gateacre School, kindly arranges for the children from all the local primary schools to make Christmas baubles which are then used to decorate the tree. Family & friends of the school children are invited in to the centre to see their child’s creation.
Father Christmas will be arriving at the Centre and meeting and greeting shoppers with a sack full of chocolates. Our authentic Father Christmas will have children mystified and will happily pose for photographs.
LIVE PERFORMANCE ART
In August and October this year, a talented caricaturist and portrait artist came to the centre to create wonderful drawings of shoppers, with 15% of proceeds going to Zoe’s Place. Due to popular demand our artist will be returning December. If you would like to have your portrait done in time for Christmas, just call in to the centre on 18th & 19th December.
For more information and prices contact Stan Hurr, Artist.

From Saturday 7th November a ‘Wishing Wall’ will be installed on the mall where visitors can go to pin a Christmas wish.
This can be anything from a seasonal greeting to an actual present that particular visitor hopes to see under their tree this Christmas. Whilst there is no prize to giveaway, retailers will be using the opportunity to tell shoppers if they have that product in store, with the aim of making your Christmas shopping easier. Retailers will visit the wall, see what items have been ‘wished’ for and reply with more details. Belle Vale Shopping Centre has also invited pupils from Gateacre School to create some eye-catching Christmas messages to put on the wall, making the Wishing Wall a striking and festive feature on the mall.
Baubles the Belle Vale elf will be in the Centre on Saturday 7th from 10am – 4pm to unveil our Wishing Wall!
MEET THE POLAR BEAR
Saturday 7th November 10am – 4pm
This beautiful Polar Bear is a fully animated pod puppet, that moves around the event nuzzling up to shoppers and even standing tall on his hind legs. Adult polar bear size and incredibly life like, he is playful, mischievous and huggable. He is just about kept in check by his Arctic Explorer keeper! A highly skilled performer is inside operating all the movements including the facial animations – blinking eyes, sniffing nose, opening mouth and also the live sounds from the custom built sound equipment. The keeper character is dressed in an Inuit style outfit to compliment the arctic theme, and acts as an intermediary between the audience and the Polar Bear, distributing interesting facts and related chat. Additionally, event dressing in the form of inflatable icebergs is provided to set the scene.
Shows are at 12pm, 2pm & 3pm
ARCTIC ANIMAL TRAIL
Children can go on an arctic exhibition in the run up to the Polar Bear appearance. There will be images of ten North Pole animals hidden in store windows and children will have to navigate the centre to find them! They simply fill in their discoveries to the corresponding store on an entry form and pop it in to the entry box; all correct entries will be entered into a prize draw and one lucky winner will receive a prize.
The entry forms & box for the Arctic Animal Trail will be available in the main mall area during the two weeks including October half term.
